I am learning Wicca on my own and I heard of some animals representing the four basic elements (eagle east, lion south, dolphin west, and wolf north) similar to air of the east, fire of the south, water of the west and earth of the north. is this true and if so, can I know more about this in detail such as which tradition this origanted from and so fourth?
Thank you,
Blessed Be. I heard of animals representing the four elements eagle east lion south dolphin west %26amp; wolf north is this true?
I'm not familiar with any Wiccan Tradition that uses those associations, although that certainly doesn't mean that no one does.
The more important question here is whether those associations are useful to you. The point of representations is to remind you of something else. Do those animals remind you of what you want them to? If they do, will you even use those correspondances?
BTW, the elements are air, fire, earth and water, not north, south east and west. The elements are commonly associated with the cardinal points. North reminds me of earth, and earth orients me toward the north. In circle, I may place an earth-related object (usually salt or a pentacle) in the north to reinforce this. Regardless whether a wolf =north or =earth, I personally am not ever going to find that useful.
Wiccan teachings are things that other people find useful in their seeking of experience with the divine. It is not something to be blindly followed by rote. Regardless if anyone else uses it, you shouldn't use it unless you find it useful.I heard of animals representing the four elements eagle east lion south dolphin west %26amp; wolf north is this true?
Greetings!
Wicca, formost, provides a pattern for individual growth. An eclectic Coven can choose which representation they use for just about anything, and the Elemental Directions, or ';Airts'; (winds) can be used to further your inner power.
You will, at some point, do an Elemental Ritual in which you call forth the ';Fire of Air, the Water of Air, the Earth of Air'; and so on and so forth, and you will connect and work with various different Elemental representations-just as you seem to have found reference to somewhere.
As a Solitary, keep a Journal of things and ideas that call to you, and resonate with your Path. Make drawings of these, and other Animals, and use them on the Quarter Altars.
Most of all, read, read, read Books and web-sites.
/!\
edit: You DO have the Directions paired correctly with the Elements, but also use the Fifth Element-can you guess what this Element is, and where it refers to in the Circle?
