Is it true the wind only blows from west to east?

One of the neighbors to my place of business wants us to put up a fence because he says the wind only blows from the west and our debris is getting in his yard. His construction debris is getting on our landscaping. He says thats impossible because, again, the wind only blows west. Someone tell me this guy is full of it.Is it true the wind only blows from west to east?

Ok, this guy is not only full of it, he really is full of it. Try phoning City Hall and find what are the local by-laws are concerning this problem. He wants you to put a fence up and doesn't want to share in any expence that he may be responibible for. Why would he pay for a fence when he can sucker you into paying for. If it is a mutual problem, you both should be paying for the fence. Ask him to share in the expense or blow it out his ear.

no. i live in iowa and i can attest the wind will and does blow from the north! we put snow fence up each year that goes east and west to block the north wind.

In the northern hemisphere the PREVAILING winds blow from west to east. But in fact the local winds move in a counter-clockwise direction around a low pressure area. So depending on where the centre of the low is, depends on which direction the winds will be coming from. Also the more intense the gradient of the low pressure the stronger the winds are as you get closer to the centre. Local winds can also be deflected by terrain, %26amp; other features on the ground. So basically the guy can't say that the wind will always move from west to east. Even the jet stream gets deflected %26amp; in some regions will move in either a northerly or southerly direction.


So the guy is full of it. If you really need to make your point with him, put up some surveillance cameras %26amp; record his construction debris blowing from his property to yours.
well, most of the time it does come from the west. I have a back porch with a roof and i like watching the rain come in. It usually comes from the west because the wind always blows the rain in my direction. But wind can come from all directions. I don't know where you live but on the east coast when a hurricane comes, the wind switches over in all directions. When a cold front comes through, the wind blows from the north. I think he should put that fence up because storms usually come from the west and blows the debris east. The fence won't help him every time but it should help him more than hurt him
