Are East Coast drivers really maniacs? Especially BOSTON. Is it true public transportation is safer?

I'm a west coast woman and LA seems bad, but we're going to Boston in Sept for RED SOX season ender games. Should we rent a car? Or is that just asking for an accident? I've heard drivers in Boston are really bad. Is it possible to get around without putting our family at risk?

Your help will be greatly appreciated!!! I will choose a BEST ANSWER.Are East Coast drivers really maniacs? Especially BOSTON. Is it true public transportation is safer?
Massachusetts drivers tend to be more aggressive that in other parts of the country. If you are coming for the red sox, definitely DO NOT rent a car. You wont be able to park it near Fenway anyway. There is no need to have a car in Boston if you stay in a hotel near a T station. I would not say driving is too dangerous, but it is harder to get around in a car. The roads are not on a grid like many cities, so its easy to get lost. There is very little parking available, so parking for a game is around $45, and traffic is horrible. Are East Coast drivers really maniacs? Especially BOSTON. I think the problem is more that the roads in Boston are not designed for tourists! They are very twisty, windy, and there is really no form of ';blocks'; that make getting around places like NYC fairly easy. Plus, parking is expensive and there's construction everywhere. If you're lost, it will be difficult to find out how to get back where you were, and if you drive too slow, you're going to get honked at. The drivers aren't bad, they're just impatient with slow people. We're New Englanders and we're always in a rush! :)

However, Boston is FANTASTIC for walking. I live in NH and LOVE to take the train in to the city. I rely on the T (subway) and simply walking from place to place. Things are actually really close to one another, and I've always felt safe walking in the city. The T will take you just about anywhere, and it is also quite safe and easy to use. The locals will help you if you're confused, too.

Enjoy your trip! Welcome to Boston--you'll love it!
It's not that the drivers are bad its the confusion of the roads and what lane people need to be in/ which streets are one ways/ construction confusion...so people from around the area know what they need to do/where they need to be and get frustrated when people who are not from around here or not paying attention get lost or don't know what they're doing directions-wise...your best bet is probably not getting a car and taking the T and with gas prices so high the subway is cheaper
We sure can be. but the difference between a driver from San Diego as opposed to a beantown driver is at least a southern cali drivers actually knows what they are doing.
