Is it true? when in Australia that East is on the right-hand side of the compass.?

Yes.

.Is it true? when in Australia that East is on the right-hand side of the compass.?
It depends on whether you're holding your compass with North on the top or South on the top. This is true in the northern hemisphere also.

If you are asking whether the part of the needle that points to north in the northern hemisphere points south in Australia, the answer is no. North is still north.

Edited: There are differences in northern and southern hemisphere, but they're more subtle.

';In the northern hemisphere the north end of the needle is pulled downwards, and the south end is counterweighted to balance the needle. When you use a northern hemisphere compass in, say, Australia, the south end of the magnet is pulled downwards by the magnetic field, and is also heavier than the north end - resulting in a needle that catches and drags on the bottom of the compass housing when the compass is held horizontal.';

It's the vertical tilt of the compass needle rather than the direction it points.Is it true? when in Australia that East is on the right-hand side of the compass.?
Yes. East is on the right hand side of any compass. (is this a trick question?)

But, if you're wondering if east is different on a compass in the northern hemisphere versus the southern hemisphere, they are the same. Think about it. The north pole is still the north pole, and the south pole is still the south pole, regardless of whether you're in the northern hemisphere or the southern hemisphere (or on the equator, for that matter). So, if you are facing north in either hemisphere, east is still to your right and west is still to your left.
I'm in Canada, and I just looked at my compass and lo and behold East is on the right side of the compass! Maybe it has something to do with if North is 12 o'clock then East is 3:15?
Yes, just like it does in the Northern Hemisphere (if you have North at the needle).

It's the toilet flushing that's the opposite in the northern and southern hemisphres.
east is always on the right hand side of the compass. North(the traditional top of the compass) is north no matter where you are.
If the needle is pointing north, yes. East is always on the right-hand side when you're facing north.
if you look north east is always on the right!
