Is it true that AT&T is the only phone company in the middle east that the troops can use to call home?

Not true... there is another phone company and the Service Member can get with their Communications Unit and find this out.. All Battalions have about 5 Satellite Phones per Company.. average 200 U.S. Service Member and they usally let personnel use it from time to time鈥?Depending on the current situation and on what base they are on鈥?but to answer you question that is a no鈥?you are allowed to use phone cards through AT%26amp;T .. HOPE THIS HELPEDIs it true that AT%26amp;T is the only phone company in the middle east that the troops can use to call home?
Many servicemen use phone cards. At%26amp;T may be the only one over there with facilities to call back to the states, but with a phone card it doesn't matter. I don't know if they are the only game in town or not, but it's a good possibility. Is it true that AT%26amp;T is the only phone company in the middle east that the troops can use to call home?
it looks that way
HATE TO SAY THIS SWEETIE BUT YOU ARE SHOWING YOUR AGE ...OR SHOULD I SAY LACK OF IT. BACK IN MY TIME, BY CRACKY, I DIDNT KNOW ANYBODY WHO ACTUALLY TALKED TO SOMEBODY IN THE STATES DURING THEIR ENTIRE TOUR OF DUTY (65,66). COURSE I WAS WAY BACK IN INDIAN COUNTRY SO THAT MAY BE THE REASON. I DONT THINK THE BOYS AND GALS REALLY CARE WHO THEIR PROVIDER IS. THEY ARE JUST TICKLED PINK TO HEAR MA AND PA AND MAYBE THEIR SWEETIE SAY A FEW SWEET WORDS. IN MANY SITUATIONS IT CAN BE A REAL COMFORT OR DISTRACTION DEPENDING ON YOUR POINT OF VIEW.
Not totally true. They have DSN, and other independant companies as well. AT%26amp;T is the most common.

Depending on which country you are in, T-Mobile and Cingular are the best Cellular companies. Watiniya sucks, but it is better then nothing.
At%26amp;t is not the only provider. Sequvoia is another provider which has popped up where you can buy troops phone cards (rechargable online). On the lighter less commercialized side, there are locals who have calling centers that take cash. Plus there are free phones with time limits at MWR centers. Also, there DSN phones. I've used them all liberally...

I agree with bionic. I had a T-Mobile cell phone that worked in Kuwait but not in Iraq. I only used that when I couldn't call out on DSN (military phone system) becuase it was around $1 per minute. With DSN I could get to a US number and use a US calling card at the same rate as if it were a domestic call, otherwise a call would eat through a 250 minute phone card in a fraction of that time.
